Things can be bound (or held) by binding spells. This is typically done to tie a person or spirit so that it cannot harm you, another person, or itself.

Spirits will almost always bind to the caster, so you need to be careful while binding them and have a strategy for what to do with them after they are bound. But you will also be able to deal with any bound spirits if you know how to cast a binding spell.
